A RYANAIR flight has been evacuated at Palermo airport after a bomb scare onboard the plane.

All 190 passengers plus crew are currently safe at Falcone e Borsellino Airport in the popular holiday destination of Sicily.

The airport’s airspace has been closed over the threat

The entire airport airspace, close to Sicily’s capital, was closed and all other arriving flights were diverted to other Sicilian airports.

Police, security, firefighters and bomb experts quickly arrived on the scene and checked the Ryanair plane and all of its luggage.

Local media has reported that the bomb alarm was triggered as the plane came into land.

Traffic at the airport has as of 9.15pm returned to normal, and the trigger of the bomb alarm has reportedly been cleared by the specialists.

Three flights were diverted to Sicily’s other major airport, Catania- Fontanarossa.
